Since 1997 Northern Waterworks Inc. has provided training and/or services to more than one-quarter of Ontario’s First Nation communities, primarily in remote, northern locations, reaching as far north as Hudson and James Bay. Approximately 250 First Nations operators have received some degree of training, ranging from refresher courses to 26 (twenty-six) week, extensive operator-training programs provided by Northern Waterworks Inc. With Northern Waterworks you don’t just get a service provider whom specializes in provision of Overall-Responsible-Operator services, you also have access to a company which has specialized in training First Nation operators since 1997.

Northern Waterworks was formed in 1995 with the Provinces privatization of municipal water treatment facilities to provide municipalities, corporations and First Nation clients with a cost effective, high quality service, as an alternative to the Provincial Government. Large agencies have hundreds of average employees, we provide 25+ water treatment specialists. Our employees have undergone rigorous training and skill development, to be the best-of-the-best.

Northern Waterworks already brings with it over 10 years of First Nation water/wastewater training, auditing and operational experience. We are currently the Service provider for Sandy Lake First Nation, Mishkeegogamang First Nation, Attawapiskat First Nation, Kashechewan First Nation and Fort Albany First Nation, Cat Lake First Nation, Bearskin Lake First Nation, Wabigoon Lake First Nation and Martin Falls First Nation. Northern Waterworks have already implemented the SWOP program into these above stated communities successfully. To implement the program for the Tribal Council communities, we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. We just have to implement an already existing and proven program, strategy and approach.

Most recently, emergency response coupled with current SWOP contracts with Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat First Nations had Northern Waterworks maintaining essential services (water treatment) as well as ensuring that these communities maintained fire protection and potable water throughout all stages of recent community evacuations. This also ensured that the costly evacuation and safe return of residents was not delayed or prolonged due to a lack of potable water and/or frozen water lines.

Albany River

Northern Waterworks maintained water treatment systems throughout the recent evacuations of Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat First Nations as an essential Service.

Through provision of these essential services; schools, hospitals and other large capital investments were protected through the continued serviceability of fire sprinkler systems.

Community residents did not have their stay in host communities prolonged due to a lack of water services and/or frozen water lines. This also allowed hospital staff and other essential service employees to return to the communities quickly; without delay.
